Shelter Striders Participate in Second Annual Walk for the Way

Naples, FL – The Shelter for Abused Women & Children’s Shelter Striders is one of more than 40 teams registered to participate in the United Way of Collier County’s second annual Walk for the Way taking place on Saturday, September 29, 2007, at North Collier Regional Park located at 15000 Livingston Road, Naples.

“The 4,000 individuals annually served face-to-face by the Shelter for Abused Women & Children are a small percentage of the 100,000 women, children and men assisted by the United Way each year,” explains Shelter Director of Development Cyndi Fields. “Together, we are making a difference in our community, one step at a time.”

The only state certified domestic violence center in Collier County, the Shelter for Abused Women & Children is a 60-bed facility providing services to victims of domestic violence in Naples, Marco Island, Immokalee, Lehigh Acres and Bonita Springs.

Annually, the Shelter assists more than 19,650 individuals through programs and services such as: 24-hour crisis line (239-775-1101); safety planning in Spanish and English; support groups for women and children in Spanish and English; individual and group counseling; Elder Abuse Response; Women of Means; ‘Gentle’men Against Domestic Violence; court and legal advocacy; in-school prevention programs; direct assistance; Options Thrift Shoppe; emergency cell phone program; on-site kennel; outreach and awareness efforts; www.naplesshelter.org; and more.
